Happy Anniversary Card with Karen Burniston!!

This past Monday, June 4th, celebrated the second anniversary of my beautiful daughter Karen and her lucky hubby Will.  Time to make a special card for them.  If you have followed my blog you know that they “identify” with critters.  Karen likes sheep, squirrels, t-rex, and dragons.  Will goes with t-rex and foxes as he went to Marist College and their mascot is a fox.  So I always try to incorporate this into their cards.  Several purchases of new products gave me the following idea.  Somehow I always end up with a bunch of stuff on my desk and this project was no different.

First I had to decide which of my new Karen Burniston dies I wanted to use.  I was torn between the Tag Book Pop-up and the Twist Panel Pop-up but settled for my favored one, the Tag Book Pop-up.  Following Karen B.’s instruction video (some of the best I have ever seen, by the way), I cut the tag covers and hinge from white pearlized Bazzill cardstock.  I had some scraps of silver and white swirled cardstock and cut out two larger beaded frames, 2 smaller beaded frames and some trim pieces all included in the die set.  I put together the 2 tags and hinge and then sat there staring at it.  I knew I wanted to use a more “sedate” patterned paper for the inside but didn’t have anything that made me say…Oooh, that’s perfect.  I had a request from the “bride” to use both wedding colors for cards for both of them…..Eggplant and Navy Blue.  Purple and blue?  Blue and purple?  I couldn’t find anything with those colors that worked for my vision.  Then I had one of those lightbulb moments.  I had purchased one of Concord & 9th turnabout stamps.  If you haven’t seen them, I urge you to go to one of Jennifer McGuire’s videos using them and take a look.  You can pretty much make any patterned paper that you need with up to 4 colors of inks/embossing powders.  You need to make a base turnabout template to attach your paper in your favorite stamp positioner tool and then turn it 4 different directions using a different ink each time.  Here is mine sitting in my Tim Holtz Stamping Platform.  Following the directions from both Jennifer and Concord & 9th, I made one from 100# smooth white cardstock, numbered each of the sections and then laminated in my Xyron.  I then just use double sided tape to attach the cardstock to the template.

I pulled out the Concord & 9th Polka Dot Turnabout stamp along with a light and dark purple and light and dark blue Tsukineko Memento ink pads and stamped two 6″x6″ pieces of cardstock using a different ink color each turn.

I finally had the inside paper that I needed, so I cut the inside pieces for my tag book card.  I also used the left over patterned paper scraps to cut both the large and small hole reinforcements.  Once I attached the inside I decided that I wasn’t fond of the plain white showing at the reinforcement area on the inside, so I used the outside tag die to cut pieces that would fill in beside the patterned paper.  I covered the seams with some of the white/silver chain die cuts.

For the outside I die cut one of the rectangle frames out of purple pearlized Bazzill cardstock and glued it to left of the large tag.  I cut some green leaves using the Flowers and Bee die set and attached them.  I layered some open petal flowers with one layer purple and one layer blue.  I attached the flowers and put a pearl in the center.  I cut the word Celebrate from Word Set 2 three times out of white and once out of purple and stacked them and glued to the front.  I attached a couple hearts cut from red metallic cardstock.  I put a piece of purple ribbon on the front and blue ribbon on the back.

On to decorating the inside!  For support on the arms I put blue cardstock topped with strips of silver/white chain trim.  I die cut the individual small tags out of the purple pearlized Bazzill cardstock.  I used the Woodland Animals set to make a squirrel and fox.  I die cut the champagne glasses charm from the Wedding Charms retired set 4 times and stacked them up and clipped off the loop.  Using Copic markers I colored the glass to look like champagne.  I cut out the word “Happy” from Word Set 2 and the “2” and “nd” from the Numbers set in Bazzill pearl white cardstock.  I cut two hearts from red metallic cardstock.  I attached the silver and white frames on the smaller tag pop ups.  On the first box I put the champagne glasses with several gold glitter Nuvo Drops for bubbles, on the second box went the squirrel holding a heart, the third box the fox holding a heart, and the last panel has “Happy 2nd”.  For the finishing touch I added white crochet thread with silver threads through it and tied in bows.

The final full view of the inside ……………………

I hope you enjoyed my latest creation.  Sorry it has been awhile, but I’m just coming off major surgery so it has taken me awhile to get my mojo back.
