Each year my daughter commissions me to make her Christmas cards to send to her friends. This year the requested theme was dinosaurs, and 28 of them. Hmmm……well I had a general idea but needed to find the stamps. So I turned to Lawn Fawn.
Now then……..how many Lawn Fawn sets does it take to make a dino Christmas card?? In my case apparently a LOT! Here are the final choices:
Please note that the stitched rectangle sets are from My Favorite Things, but only because I have those. Lawn Fawn does have stitched rectangles that you can use instead.
I started out by cutting a slightly smaller than A2 size rectangle out of red cardstock and also a slightly smaller one out of white smooth cardstock. I stamped the snowfall stamp from Snowy Backdrops onto the white rectangle with Versamark ink and embossed with white embossing powder. Then using Ranger Distress Oxide inks I blended the sky. First I applied Broken China and then edged with Mermaid Lagoon. After wiping the ink off the white embossing with a dry cloth I sprayed the Oxide inks to give it some texture.
Using the Stitched Hillside Border die I cut a snow drift from white textured cardstock and attached to the background. Then that layer was put on the red layer and then onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ white card base. Then I took a clear Spectrum Noir sparkle pen and went over the snowy hillside to give it lots of sparkle.
Now comes the fun part! I stamped all the scene pieces that I needed and colored them with Copic markers and then die cut them out. Here is a list a it’s easier for you to see them this way.
1. BAAH Humbug Stamp & Die Set – Stamp, color and cut the little Santa hat. I used Wink of Stella clear on the “fur” parts of the hat
2. Cheery Christmas Stamp & Die Set – Stamp, color and cut the little ornament and star. Stamp the tree using a dark green ink and cut out. I used VersaFine Olympia Green.
3. Critters From The Past Stamp & Die Set – Stamp, color and cut the baby dino in the egg. Used a black glaze pen on the eye.
4. Rawr Stamp & Die Set – Stamp, color and cut the Dino and Rawr speech bubble. Used a black glaze pen on the eye.
5. Snow Cool Stamp Set – Stamp the small dot on the egg using Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink.
And here is the result! Think I might just need a Scan N Cut???
First I glued the star to the top of the tree. Then using a craft knife I cut a slot along the large dino’s arm and tucked the top of the ornament in so it looks like he is holding it and glued the Santa hat to his head. Then, using foam tape, I attached all pieces to the front of the card. As a final touch I used Diamond Glaze on the ornament the dino is holding and Tonic Nuvo Gloss Drops in red, yellow, blue and green on the tree.
For the inside I went to the Rawr set and used the “Rawr means” and “in Dinosaur” and combined them with “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” from Merry Messages and “Happy Hanukkah” from Love You A Latke.
For the envelope I stamped the baby dino from Critters From The Past and the Rawr speech bubble from Rawr…..and you have a great holiday card and envelope set.
Hope you like my first Christmas card of the year. I hope to have more to come and who know how many stamps and I dies I will use the next time! Maybe more, maybe less but be sure to come back and see.
