The monthly birthday challenge for My Favorite Things is perfect for me! I have many friends in my community for whom I make birthday cards and this year I decided in January to make all of them at once so that I wouldn’t be rushed at the last minute. I made one design for the gals and a different one for the guys. Well it so happens that the one I made for the gals fits right in with this theme!
I had an idea that I wanted the card to be an “inside” card rather than an outside one. So I started with some printed background cardstock that reminded me of wallpaper and layered that on a red cardstock base. Then I cut some texture brown cardstock with the Stitched Basic Edges curved die to make a floor and attached that to the card. Using the Happy Hippos stamp and die sets and my Copic markers I stamped using Tsukineko Memento ink, colored and cut out the hippo, bow, balloons and bird and glued them together. Next I attached this to the card using foam tape and at an angle so it looks as though the balloons are lifting him off the floor. Using a brown Copic marker I added a shadow to the floor. I stamped “It’s Your Day” from the same set onto a strip of ivory cardstock and hand cut it into a banner shape. I decided that the background needed something else, so I dug through my stash and found some star shaped confetti in red and blue which I added to the front……..the perfect finishing touch!
Using Tsukinko VersaFine black ink, I stamped the outside of the envelope using two stamps from the set, and of course stamped the inside using the most perfect saying ever for this set……….Wishing You a Hippo Bird-Day!
