Lawn Fawn Challenge #5 – Spring Inspiration Board

I hope everyone is having a great day!  Spring is pushing itself into our surroundings with beautiful flowers and warm weather….finally!!  Of course we could enjoy it more if it would quit raining here on the east coast!  I know it helps the crops and lakes, but begging Mother Nature to save some of it until the middle of summer when we will need it more.  But at least our new landscaping is doing well and we are saving on our irrigation water bill.

Speaking of beautiful flowers and fun times, Lawn Fawn has thrown out a challenge that includes a spring inspiration board.  Kittens, bicycles, flowers and colors….oh my!  The challenge is to do something using either the photos or colors or both as inspiration.  Here is the board so you can see what we had to work with.

I immediately knew that I wanted to use kittens on my card.  I just love the Meow You Doin’ stamp and die sets by Lawn Fawn.  Then I tried to figure out what would the kitties enjoy doing.  I know!  Wouldn’t it be great to have a kitten show up at your door with a jar of toys and asking to be your friend???  I know that I would love that! So I combined the kitten with a jar of her favorite toys…….balls of yarn in all the spring board colors!  Here is my first version:

First I stamped the jar, lid and label from How You Bean? and the kitten and 15 balls of yarn from Meow You Doin’ onto smooth white cardstock.  Using Copic markers, I colored the kitten in grays with a white chest patch, blue on the jar, purple on the label, and the yarn balls using the 6 colors from the board.  I colored the jar lid with my silver Wink of Stella pen.  I die cut everything using the matching dies, but I used the die from the How You Bean? shaker add on to cut the jar.  Using the same die I cut 6 pieces from white cardstock and stacked them up and glued them together to make my shaker spacer.  Make sure to use your embossing powder tool to go around the edges to take away any stickiness.  I then used the slightly smaller jar die to cut a piece of acetate, and the regular jar die to cut the back.  I attached my stacked pieces to the backing piece and put in all the “yarn” balls.  I attached the acetate piece to the front jar and attached that to the top of the stack.  I also put a double layer of foam tape on the back of the kitten.  Finally I tied a length of twine around the jar lid.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with the background, but while shuffling through my patterned paper pieces I found a scrap of Lawn Fawn paper that matched one of the board colors perfectly!  The color is Wild Rose and has white heart on the pretty background color.  I cut a piece to fit my card and then using some embossed brown paper and the Simple Stitched Hillside Borders I cut a rounded piece for the bottom to look like a table edge and attached that to the bottom.  I then attached the shaker jar and the kitten to the card.

Hmm………….  Something just didn’t look right, though.  It was too plain on the top and the bottom.  Then I remembered there was a narrow edge piece that I cut off the bottom of the printed cardstock that was white with Wild Rose dots.  So I dug that out of the trash and cut it apart between the dotted area and the one strip of hearts.  I played around with them until I decided to attach the strip of hearts to the very bottom.  I then cut the dotted strip down a bit and put it at the top.  Voila!  The look was totally changed and I loved the new version.  Take a look at both and let me know which one you like better.

I hope you enjoyed my version of this challenge.  Take the holiday weekend to dig out some stamps, dies, paper and embellishments and go to town making your version of the Spring Board card.  Have a wonderful Memorial Day and be safe out there on the roads.  I want you all back to check out my next adventure!!!
